Many homes have had the new Smart Meters installed for electricity & gas.
However, there are several homes where only the Smart Meters were installed for electricity.
This is because the adapters for gas would not work with the existing gas meters.
PG&E will be coming back to replace the entire gas meter with one that will work with the Smart Meter...
It is quite likely that those gas appliances that depend upon a pilot light will have to be relit. If you are comfortable in lighting your own pilot lights, then there is not much concern.
If you do not feel comfortable in relighting your pilot lights, then you can schedule an appointment with PG&E to come out and install the new gas meter and to check on your pilot lights afterwards.
