The DA Summons Angry Mothers to His Office to Address the West Marin Arrests
On December 29th, two women were arrested in Inverness Park while stopping the forced installation of PG&E's wireless Smart Meters.
The women, along with 30 others from the area, stood on Sir Francis Drake in front of Perry's Deli blocking the 10 Wellington Energy Trucks (a subcontract of PG&E to install the meters) from coming into Inverness.
"It was like shock and awe that day, PG&E had sent a fleet of 10 Wellington trucks into the sleepy town of Inverness to get the installation done as fast and as quietly as possible. PG&E's smart meter program can only be described as a military-like operation. It is stealth, it is deceptive, and there is no choice." said Katharina Sandizell, one of the mothers arrested.
On February 9th, the two mothers are faced with meeting with the Marin County DA because of their action of blocking the devices from being installed on an unwilling public.
"The forced installation of RF emitting devices that you can't turn off, implement higher peak daytime pricing, and you don't choose to have seems like a breach in our civil liberties at the very least" said Barry Smith, co-director of Environmental Health Coalition, a non-profit whose mission lies in helping keep toxics out of the environment.
"People are concerned about privacy issues, green-washed rate hikes, as well as a lack of public knowledge or choice in the matter. There are also health and safety concerns. Because of this, we as PG&E customers deserve to know the full extent of this program before we sign on to it. Instead, in true PG&E fashion, it is being foisted upon us while providing misinformation to the consumer." said Sandizell, co-director of Environmental Health Coalition of West Marin.
June DiMorente, of West Marin, the other mother arrested said "I was protecting my family and my community by stopping this forced installation. I feel that as a citizen, I have the right to know the real reasons why this is going onto my home, and I know that I can speak for most of my community, since we have petitions saying that about 90% of us feel similarly. If we don't want these smart meters, then we have a right to refuse. And that is what we did that day. If the Sheriff cannot enforce what the citizens want, then the citizens have to do it themselves. PG&E may be richer than the law, but it is not above the law."
