Hi there,

This is just a inquiry to find folks interested in the material presented by the talk by Marcin Jakubowski, PhD,February 2nd, at the French Garden in Sebastopol, at 7pm.

The (https://Global%20Village%20Construction%20Set) Global Village Construction Set (https://Global%20Village%20Construction%20Set)(GVCS), the project that Marcin Jakubowski is going to talk about, is a perfect fit for our community and is the missing piece in the Transition model for developing local resilience. Without a sustainable economic base, we have no real chance to re-localize and create the resilience we are striving for. The GVCS has the potential to provide jobs, economic means for communities, and can be designed to produce for specific industries in different communities. Marcin is considering developing this project here in this community, and we want to be the location for the first project set and have our region be a relocalization model.

Marcin is the developer of the Global Village Construction Set (https://openfarmtech.org/wiki/Global+Village+Construction+Set), which is a life size Lego set of open source tools for creating advanced civilization from local resources. To date he has produced prototypes for an open source tractor (Life Trac), a CNC torch table, a 150 ton metal hole punch, a micro tractor, a soil pulverizer, a compressed earth brick press, as well as several other substantial tools. The project is completely open source and features radical modularity. For example, Life Trac has interchangeable 'Power Cube' engine units that can be aggregated for additional power, and can be used in other machines such as the CEB press or metal hole puncher. All of the tools are designed for dis-assembly so that every machine is easy to modify and repair with bolts and simple tools such as wrenches. The open source model, and simplicity of the designs, reduces the costs for the user/producer to one tenth the cost for purchase and maintenance of off the shelf equipment. The social ramifications of this project are obvious. The economic leveling of the playing field for small to mid-scale farmers, for example, will result in the survival of the family farm in the age of industrial agricultural practices.

Marcin has recently been awarded a TED Fellowship for 2011, won the Make Magazine Green Innovation prize, has had an article published in Grist Magazine (https://www.grist.org/article/food-2010-12-29-farmer-scientists-want-to-hack-society), and is competing for the Buckminster Fuller Institute Challenge for Socially Responsible Design award. The interest in the project is growing faster than we have imagined, and we are at critical decision points. Our meeting tonight is to gather information and advice regarding how we should proceed in this region. We would like to get your perspective on it. If you know of anyone who may be able to contribute to this process, please feel free to invite them.

I'd like to find folks interested in the work I MISSED the presentation, but am very interested in innovative systems. Nico
