View Full Version : possible pc scam
I got a phone call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft, and after showing me some error and warning messages on my computer, said it was completely corrupted and required a technician to access and fix the problem. He directed me to go to logmein123.com, and later to onlinepchub.com for verification when I was not willing to comply.
Microsoft said no such calls were made.
Does anyone know about this possible scam? He knew my name, street address, and Windows version. But it still did not ring true, and he got pretty pushy when I expressed doubt and refused to go to the websites.
Just wondering what this could be about, and if anyone has any information/advice in case it happens again, or to others.

https://www.waccobb.net/forums/waccobb/ImagesforMembers/WaccoHomelandSeurityScamAlert.pngI have confirmed with Melissa that this actually happened to her.
THIS IS A REAL SCAM!:omg:
And a scary one at that!
I assure you no one from "Microsoft" will be contacting you by phone out of the blue.
Do not go to any website they suggest!
Do not do anything on your computer!
Just Hang Up!
Here's an article from the UK (https://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/jul/18/phone-scam-india-call-centres) about a similar scam.
Here's Microsoft's page (https://www.microsoft.com/protect/fraud/phishing/msname.aspx) about this and similar scams.
And what to do if you feel you have been suckered (https://www.microsoft.com/protect/fraud/phishing/respond.aspx).
Thanks for alerting us, Melissa!
Please do not post any virus or scam warnings that you may receive from other sources here. Many of them are hoaxes. On the other hand, if you have first hand experience of a scam attempt I encourage you to post it or contact me.
