“Especially within hours of a tragedy unfolding, journalists and pundits should not manufacture a blood libel that serves only to incite the very hatred and violence that they purport to condemn. That is reprehensible.”

Here's the Wikipedia Entry on Blood Libel (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_libel):

Blood libel (also blood accusation[1] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_libel#cite_note-JewishEncyclopedia-0)[2] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_libel#cite_note-dundes-1)) refers to a false accusation or claim[3] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_libel#cite_note-Turvey2008p3-2)[4] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_libel#cite_note-Chanes2004pp34-35-3)[5] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_libel#cite_note-Goldish2008p8-4) that religious minorities, almost always Jews (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jew), murder children to use their blood (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_blood) in certain aspects of their religious rituals (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religious_ritual) and holidays (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religious_holiday).[1] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_libel#cite_note-JewishEncyclopedia-0)[2] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_libel#cite_note-dundes-1)[6] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_libel#cite_note-zeitlin-5) Historically, these claims have–alongside those of well poisoning (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Well_poisoning) and host desecration (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Host_desecration)–been a major theme in European persecution of Jews.[4] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_libel#cite_note-Chanes2004pp34-35-3)

The libels typically allege that Jews require human blood for the baking of matzos (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matzo) for Passover (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passover). The accusations often assert that the blood of Christian (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian) children is especially coveted, and historically blood libel claims have often been made to account for otherwise unexplained deaths of children. In some cases, the alleged victim of human sacrifice (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_sacrifice) has become venerated as a martyr (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_martyr), a holy figure around whom a martyr cult might arise. A few of these have been even canonized (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canonization) as saints (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint), like Gavriil Belostoksky (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gavriil_Belostoksky). ....

Here's an equally long-winded and self-serving response (IMO), even if its factually accurate:

<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="https://www.youtube.com/v/VVDla_Ax40k?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/VVDla_Ax40k?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>

Whaddya think?
