Every two years the state Democratic Party holds caucuses in every assembly district where registered Democrats can choose delegates to the state party convention. This weekend there will caucuses all over the state. In our area, Assembly District 1, there will be a caucus in Ukiah from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday January 8.
Once again, I am running for delegate and am asking for your support. As an incumbent, I have learned that monitoring the rules and resolutions at the state level and advocacy for our district is essential and something that I am able to provide. As many of us know, understanding or comprehension of the needs and problems in our part of the state is sadly lacking by many in the party. Attending the conventions and executive board meetings has been an eye opener!
Here is the exact address of the caucus: SEIU 1000, 655 King Court, Ukiah (across from the DMV)
Any registered Democrat can vote, but he or she must vote in person. The voter must register at the caucus between 10 A.M and noon. Then the voter can vote and leave, or the voter can stay for the meeting (mostly candidate statements) and then vote after the meeting. The meetings are a great way to network with other Democrats from the coast. (AD1 goes all the way to Del Norte County.)
Here is my candidate statement:
I am honored to be a delegate from AD1, and am asking for your vote to serve again. AD 1 is a diverse and large district that needs strong and knowledgeable advocacy within the state party. To that end, I have been helping in the effort to establish a Food and Agriculture Caucus. I am a member of the Progressive caucus, the Native American Caucus and the Rural Caucus, all of which are important pieces of an adequate representation of AD1. As a member of the Sonoma County Central Committee, elected from the 5th District for the second time, my concentration has been on building connections between communities and the Central Committee and on building a grassroots campaign organization. I was district leader in the 5th in the last election and have returned as Chair of the Political Organizing Committee, working to lay the groundwork for 2012. For the last 40 years I have been a lifelong Democrat, a community organizer, a labor organizer and advocate, an activist for community, non-corporate, cooperative agriculture; attorney (people's law); an activist on issues of diversity and racism and an activist in the local schools. My family and I have lived near Sebastopol for 16 years.
