In this social media/mailing list driven world, it's a pretty common practice, both online and at live events, to have a contest/raffle/sweepstakes to win a prize if you provide your email address or business card.
What's really happening though, usually, is that you are signing up for their mailing list and they are not informing you nor asking your permission for that.
Maybe that's obvious and given by now, but it bugs me every time I see it. Yes, hopefully they include an opt-out option when they contact you, so maybe its not that bad, but it still strikes me as sneaky.
What do you think of this practice? Are you aware that's whats happening? Do you do this as well?

I don’t enter into that type of thing often. And I do not appreciate receiving Junk Mail that clogs-up my P.O. Box. Nor do I like the Spam e mail. However I can at least program the e mail system to specifically put known unwanted mailers into the “Spam” Folder. That is impossible to do with junk mail that gets sent through the USPS:fie: :pullshair:.

If I want someone’s address I will ask for it and inform as to why I would likely correspond to them in the first place.:wink:
