Hi All,

I am in the process of putting together a "Guide to Going Car Free in Sonoma
County". Part of it will be profiles of people who are currently car free
or car lite-
how they did it and how it works for them.

I am looking for car free or car lite people who would be willing to be
interviewed and have their story appear in the Guide. Please contact me if
you're interested.

I am hoping to start a volunteer environmental organization- Car Free Sonoma
County. Its mission will be to attract people to a less car-dependent
lifestyle by highlighting the benefits and enhancing the image of the
car-free life. The Guide will be given out as part of the membership packet
for Car Free Sonoma County and may eventually be available online as well.
Anyone who is interviewed will receive free membership to Car Free Sonoma
County.

I am also looking for volunteers to work with me to help Car Free
Sonoma County become a reality. There is so much to do- I need all the help
I can get. Anyone with just one free hour can help- no special talent
needed and no longer term commitment required! I am especially looking for
people who are currently car free or car lite to bring their ideas,
experience and wisdom to the group- but all are welcome, wherever you are on
the continuum. Again, volunteers will receive free membership.

If you'd like to get a better understanding of my vision for the group,
please visit
https://www.auto-free.net/ (https://www.auto-free.net/) . . . .my idea is to form a similar organization
for Sonoma County. I've been networking with the Executive Director of Auto
Free Orange County for the past several months, and we're currently
negotiating the terms under which he will support me getting Car Free Sonoma
County started.

Let me know what you think!

Elizabeth

Elizabeth,

I have lived car-free many times in my life, including 10 months with a toddler. I and my 3 year old are currently very car-lite.
Feel free to contact me.

 Hello Elizabeth
I am living car lite in sonoma County and have been car-free many times. I am very excited about this transition. I checked the car-free Orange county website. Looks interesting. I have an hour or two I could donate. I am not a phone or public speaking person. I am a bookkeeper and general office organizer As well as a good massage therapist, and I would like to help. My home phone is 575-5526 or email [email protected]

Dear Liz,
About 15 yrs. ago a west Sonoma County environmentalist put together this same kind of info. She then moved to Ohio or Michigan..I can't remember her name but when it comes to me I'll get it to you. I did have all this info on my old computer but now I'll have to rely on my memory...give me a few days. You might call Bryan Albee, Transit systems manager, Sonoma County Transit and ask him if he remembers the environmentalist and her work? 707 585-7516. Also check older west county environmentalists for this info..
peace out,
muffins

Dear Elizabeth,

I sold my old car partly because I felt like I was on the tred-mill of going to work to earn money to buy gas so I could go to work to earn money to buy gas...

Now I stay home too much because the nearest bus stop is 2 miles away, up and down hills. The bike trails are almost non-existant around Kenwood. When are we going to get more and better public transportation? Perhaps now, I need to consider living in town. What a shame to have to leave this serene country setting.

Sacramento was a good place to live car-free. I did it many times.
