Hi There
Thought about putting this in the Ride-Share category, but that seems to be more about rides on specific days to specific places. With this, I'm looking for someone who wants to explore the possibility of going "car-lite" by sharing a vehicle.
What I'd really LOVE is something like a City-CarShare program up here. But until that happens I'm open to exploring other creative possibilities.
Since my car blew up (head gasket) I've been experimenting with carlessness and have found that 80 - 90% of the trips I used to take in the car I can do on my bike or by carpooling. It requires more consciousness and planning. But isn't that what this is all about - getting a bit more conscious in our use of resources? With a car sitting in the driveway it was way too tempting to just "run" in town to pick up something I didn't really need but really wanted at the moment! It was also tempting to wait until the VERY last minute to leave and end up being a bit stressed out and running late. Not a consciousness-raising way of being!
However, there are a few times when I really do need/want access to a car - probably an average of 2 - 3 times a week. For instance, every other Tuesday afternoon my daughter has an appointment in Santa Rosa and there's just not enough time to get there on the bike after picking her up at school. (And, quite honestly, I'm not so die-hard that I would want to bike out there with her in the trailer every other week!)
So if you have a car that sits around a lot - like I used to - and would like to explore the possibility of sharing it, let me know. I'm open to all kinds of creative ways to make this work.
Oh, and it probably makes sense if you're on the SW side of Sebastopol. I'm on Blackney, in between Pleasant Hill and Watertrough. So anywhere from downtown out west or south a little ways would work.
FYI: I have my own insurance and a clean driving record.
Let's talk!
