If you received a ballot for the KPFA Local Station Board (LSB) election, please take a few minutes to fill it out and mail it so that it is received at the station by Sept. 30.

In order to keep KPFA a viable independent alternative to the corporate media, as a former member of the KPFA Program Council and the LSB, I recommend that you vote for the following candidates (there are nine open seats): Tracy Rosenberg, Hyun-Mi Kim, Janet Kobren, Kate Tanaka, Naeem Deskins, Dr. Stephan Astourian, Gina Szeto, Georgia Frazier, Monadel Herzallah.

Endorsers of the Independents for Community Radio candidates: Myself, along with Robbie Osman (see: https://www.robbie.org ), Peter Phillips (of Project Censored), Adrienne Lauby (KPFA Pushing Limits), Anthony Fest (KPFA Weekend News), Barbara Lubin (Middle East Children's Alliance), Bonnie Faulkner (Guns & Butter), Cindy Sheehan, Carol Spooner, Miguel Molina (La Onda Bajita), Noelle Hanrahan, Nora Barrows- Friedman, and many others (see: https://voteindyradio.org )

If you have time, please read Stealing Save KPFA: https://sfbayview.com/2010/stealing-save-kpfa/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+sfbayview+%28San+Francisco+Bay+View%29

In 1999 hundreds of people mobilized in Sonoma County in support of the movement to rescue KPFA from a self selected Pacifica Board that shut down the station. New Bylaws were written, establishing a democratic process for listener sponsored KPFA. Let's maintain democracy at KPFA/Pacifica by electing Board members who will represent the community/listener's interests.

For free speech independent media,
Attila Nagy

These articles raise important questions. I would like to add that there are issues about corporate governance involved, as well, that have been raised by Carol Spooner.

KPFA is a not for profit corporation under the laws of the state of California. The board has responsibilities assigned to it by law, including the responsibility for the financial health of the organization. Many of us have been on the board of, or worked for a not for profit. We know that there can be a myriad of relationships between not for profit boards and their managements.

The people running for the board should tell the voters whether they will work to continue the current method of voting for the board or whether they will try to change to the method where the board picks its own members--a by laws change. People running for the board should also be explicit about the kinds of financial reporting that they expect from management.

There have been several on-air candidate forums and forums in various communities, including Santa Rosa. Your questions have been considered and answered satisfactorily by the Independents for Community Radio candidates. They, along with their allies on the current Board, want to maintain democracy and financial transparency at KPFA and throughout the Pacifica network.
