My mother lives in an assisted living facility that is dog friendly. She has a four year old Shih Tzu that unfortunately snapped at a caregiver and another resident and we had to take the dog away. My mother, who has dementia, is devastated and lonely. We are looking for a dog weighing 20 lbs or less. The most important qualities are: housebroken, gentle, calm, good with people, not frenzied about cats (there are two resident cats that live there who barely acknowledge the dog). There are no other dogs living there at this time but that could change as new residents move in. The dog would live in my Mom's apartment, have walks as well as free play time in an enclosed courtyard with lots of grass and plants to sniff, be well loved and cared for by Mom and also the many caregivers that work there. We feed healthy dog food and treats and are experienced responsible dog people. No nervous, nippy dogs, please!
