Water testing in the home ? My water smells nasty

recently the water in my home ( kitchen and bathroom ) has begun to smell
i do not own this home and wanted to know if there is free water testing
or inexpensive water testing I can do at home

Interesting. My water has also had a sulphuric smell lately since excessive rainfall. I thought it was faulty plumbing in my odd little house, but now I wonder if city water was affected or somewhere along in the pipes. (I live in west Santa Rosa.) I recognized the smell from life in India. During rainy season our well water would start to smell like this. It's not exactly toxic, but it upset our digestion and we would have to boil the drinking water during that season. I noticed accompanying stomach problems here too so switched to bottled water except for bathing. I assume it will pass as weather gets drier, but I wonder if others have had this problem.

I'm on a well, and when the weather stays rainy long enough to soak the ground, my water gets cloudy. My landlord says that there are tiny holes in the well that allow contamination from the surrounding dirt, but these holes are so high up in the well that they only become a problem when the water level rises quite high; usually the water level in my well is below where the holes are, so they're not a problem then. I don't know if this is similar enough to what's happening with any of you folks to be useful info for you.

I too am wondering about the water - I called a few places I found in the phone book - ended up with a private org. that charges $150 to do a battery of tests - they are at 544-8807 - Borell ?? I couldn't get the full name -

Is there anyone you have heard of since this posting? We have particles coming out of our bathtub pipes and the water is usually a rusty-brown color.

Also, I am wondering what our rights are as renters???
