Non-profit installing solar panels for low-income home owners for FREE

You can have solar panels installed on your home, at no cost to you, if your income is within the income thresholds identified below. Real Goods Solar is working in joint effort with the non-profit North Coast Energy Services (NCES) to install solar electric systems on residences of qualifying homeowners in Marin and Napa counties. This pilot program, funded by the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), is offered at no cost to homeowners. These systems are paid for by tax payers dollars. Qualification is based on the number of people in the home and current (within the previous six weeks at time of application) income.

In addition to income, the roof of the home must be less than 10 years old, must not be flat, and must receive good sun exposure. Mobile homes are not eligible in this pilot program.

Okay this article mentions Napa and Marin Counties.

How can a low income home owner living in Sonoma County get in on this deal?!

We would love to install solar panels on our house --- and we would even qualify!!!
Any one out there have ideas for us in Sonoma County.

Hi Robin,

Call 707-463-0303 or contact by email at [email protected]. This is a non profit organization, North Cost Energy Services, that recieved a federal grant to give these systems to low income homeowners. When you call they will send you an application. Complete the application and send it back quickly because this program is on a first-come-first-served basis and more than half of the systems cave been claimed. Good luck- I hope you get a free solar system!

This is a great program and it looks like I'm going to get a FREE solar system! :sun:

I'm also delighted to say that about 75% of the applications they are receiving are from people who saw it on WaccoBB!

707-463-0303 and they can connect you to the appropriate paperwork and person who will do a site evaluation.
