Everytime I see a wasp it is either dead, or dying...
Wondering what's going on?...Lived here a long time and usually see plenty of live ones flyin' around...

Where are you located? Around my place, they are prevalent, flying around the plum trees, and finding their way inside if I leave the screen door open too long.

On the other hand, I've seen a lot of dead or dying honey bees this year (and last year). Mostly on concrete surfaces... so maybe that's an anomaly.

I'm concerned by your post although I haven't seen any dead or dying wasps myself; I wonder if they're somehow being (or about to be) afflicted with the same problems as bees have been. Is there an individual or a department at the college that you could go and take some sample wasp bodies to for analysis? It seems it might be within the purview of a public health department to investigate this question.

Driving about 25mph in my truck today one came in the open window and bit me on the wrist. It was dead once I smacked it... Never had one so aggressive to fly into a moving car to nail me.
At the same time I noticed several nesting in a little playground by my work. Doing well and thriving it seemed.

Thanks for responding folks...

Today I noticed some flying around looking all healthy...The bees, have been looking fine...
Maybe some kind of wasp poison was around at some neighbors house?...Don't know...
Maybe it was just one of those weird co-incidental things to always see them dying, or dead the last several weeks...?...
(I'm in Santa Rosa)

probably a neighbor zapped a hive, it happens sad but sometimes necessary

we have noticed a reduction in our harmless and beneficial mud wasps...sad..
