More positive news on the legalization front. The complete article is well worth a read for any other Waccons out there who're military vets.

From the "New York Times (https://www.nytimes.com/)":

V.A. Easing Rules for Users of Medical Marijuana (https://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/24/health/policy/24veterans.html?_r=2&hp)

Excerpt:

"The Department of Veterans Affairs (https://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/organizations/v/veterans_affairs_department/index.html?inline=nyt-org) will formally allow patients treated at its hospitals (https://topics.nytimes.com/top/news/health/diseasesconditionsandhealthtopics/hospitals/index.html?inline=nyt-classifier) and clinics to use medical marijuana (https://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/subjects/m/marijuana/index.html?inline=nyt-classifier) in states where it is legal, a policy clarification that veterans have sought for several years.

A department directive, expected to take effect next week, resolves the conflict in veterans facilities between federal law, which outlaws marijuana, and the 14 states that allow medicinal use of the drug (https://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/12/nyregion/12marijuana.html), effectively deferring to the states.

The policy will not permit department doctors to prescribe marijuana. But it will address the concern of many patients who use the drug that they could lose access to their prescription pain medication if caught"
