Calling all Waccoons.
Do other Waccoons think we're ready for serious discussion on the topic of a Waccoon Motto?
Since receiving the distinguished appellation of "Waccoons", I've noticed a surge in spirit among us, and it's occurred to me that the time may be right to consider a motto for ourselves. And so to start the ball rolling, I've come up with one fairly dignified possibility:
"E Pluribus Waccoon".
If you happen to be a Waccoon but not a scholar of U.S History, then FYI, my suggested motto is a takeoff on the early U.S. motto,
"E Pluribus Unum", which translates into "Out of Many, One". (An 18th century reference to the 13 colonies becoming one nation.)
And it is certainly apropos that in the old TV series "The Honeymooners," (you can ask your grandparents if you've never heard of it) bus-driver Ralph Kramden and his best friend, NYC sewer-worker Ed Norton, were members of the Bensonhurst chapter of the Raccoon Lodge, of the "International Order of Friendly Sons of Loyal Raccoons" (or something like that), and their motto was
"E Pluribus Raccoon".
So, I'm just putting this out there to you all. Please please don't think that my suggested motto is in any way intended as a wink to American patriotism, colonialism of any sort, or exclusion of women from traditionally male social organizations or professions.
And while I'm at it, I might as well say that I hope any discussion on this topic can remain rancor-free; I still shutter when I think of those vituperative, long-winded slings against our Occidental firefighters from the angry, pontificating, pseudo-intellectual "PHd candidate" waiting at home for his mail-order diploma to arrive; and the heartless Best Family winery-supporter telling a Waccoon who has the misfortune of living especially close to the project site, that if he didn't like it then he should just "move". That's right, just pack up his family, settle his affairs, waltz right into a quiet new place. (Okay, just had to finally get my two cents in on these things.)
