View Full Version : Why I Bother

"Mad" Miles

Sometimes I imagine that some of the people who see the debates here, wonder, "Why are they wasting their time? It's not like anyone is going to change their own mind, or anyone elses.

Why does "Mad" Miles, Hotspring44, Valley Oak, etc. go on, and on, declaiming against conservative views?

Why does X-Conservative bother to defend his/her denunciations of President Obama, and then have to put up with "Mad" Miles disparaging that?

A plague on both their houses!"

I even wonder myself.

It's not like there's a vibrant mass Left / Liberal movement, out in the streets doing the non-violent direct action that I call for.

Here's why. Two stories from the last two days:

Police: California man charged in freeway shootout was targeting ACLU. other nonprofit (https://fugitive.com/archives/25250)

Sherrod case shows power of conservative media (https://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_SHERROD_CONSERVATIVE_MEDIA?SITE=CASRP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT)

I read the paper everyday. (Yeah, I know, you're sick of reading that from me! But I think it's important. That's why I repeat it so often.) Usually after I've spent hours on the internet, a lot of that time here.

Aside from the two articles above, I've noticed a recent trend regarding the immigration issue. From short little news items in the back pages of the first section, or the Empire News section, usually reporting something a government agency has put out.

Crime is down.

Arrests of mojados headed north across the border with Mexico are up.

The National Guard is going to be deployed on the border this summer, in Texas, New Mexico and with special attention to Arizona.

This trend is the complete opposite of what the anti-immigrant, nativist, conservative, quasi-racist and closet fascist movement is screaming.

But don't hold your breath waiting for them to say, "Oops, it's not as bad as we've been making things out to be. Maybe the sky isn't falling after all."

That's why I bother.

In the scheme of things, waccobb is a small pond. But if what I write adds to the voices for reason, real balance and looking at things from as many perspectives as can be comprehensible, while still being useful?

Well, that's a better use of my time than anything else I can think of for the moment.

(Except for writing the books I should be working on, but amn't. Made "amn't" up! Refugiate that!)

So, don't expect me to start suffering fools and/or liars gladly.

God Damn Socialists!
