Note to Barry: Please don't move this to Reader - this is my call for local action!

Dear Community,

Are you happy with all the state & local budget cuts to basic services and public safety? Do you think these cuts are only due to "the economy"? Do you think funding more of the same foreign policy operations will make us "win", or even have different results.

When every side has their hands deep into corruption - at the expense of the countless innocent civilians, our service members, and our US debt; are you ready to insist on an end to the funding?

Please take action; and urge everyone you know to do the same.

The only way we can create an inheritable future is if WE THE PEOPLE take consistent action, where it matters most. Use your voice, use your telephone or fax, use your computer to do more than whine about what you don't like. Use your creative writing talents to bring sanity and solvency back to our towns and our nation.

Much thanks!,

Colleen Fernald

From our good friends at Democrats.com

Tomorrow (Thursday) is the vote on the war funding supplemental for Afghanistan. Save yourself about $35 billion tonight. In 2009, House Progressives had two chances to use the "power of the purse" to end the wars by opposing the $97 Billion War Supplemental. On May 14, 51 Progressives voted against war funds. But on June 16, when 32 true Progressives voted No (1) and we needed just 7 more Progressives to end the wars, 21 sorely disappointed us.

They were: Yvette Clarke, Steve Cohen, Jim Cooper, Jerry Costello, Barney Frank, Luis Gutierrez, Jay Inslee, Steve Kagen, John Lewis, Edward Markey, Doris Matsui, Jim McDermott, George Miller, Grace Napolitano, Richard Neal, James Oberstar, Jan Schakowsky, Mike Thompson, Edolphus Towns, Nydia Velázquez, and Anthony Weiner...

Jam the switchboard on July 1

Dear Colleen,

While President Obama’s debt commission works to undermine Social Security and Medicare as part of the nonsensical austerity measures proposed by neocons to relieve the debt created, in large part, by two wars of choice, Congress is poised to approve another $1 million per troop for a total of more than 33 billion dollars!

The pressure we’ve been applying on Congress to vote against the supplemental funding bill for the war in Afghanistan has made a difference. Forty House members have decided to vote no, and at least 10 more are on the fence.

Our sources are telling us that Congress will vote tomorrow, July 1.
We can expect procedural maneuvering, which will allow members to vote no on funding, then yes on the rest of the goodies with the funding attached. We want our members to vote no on funding no matter how much lipstick they apply to this pig.

Call your Representative through the Capitol Hill switchboard: (202) 224-3121 and email 21 key members with one click.

Now's the time to get them on record opposing any more funding for these wars ever.

Report on your progress at DefundWar.org | WarIsACrime.org (https://defundwar.org).

We’ve got some momentum going—please make this call first thing Thursday morning. Let’s jam the switchboard!

In solidarity for peace,

Tim Carpenter
