When I was a grad student in Intellectual History at the University of Chicago, '84-'85, and then a lapsed grad student and member of the campus community until 1989, one of the scholars that impressed me was John Mearsheimer. If I'd been a Poli Sci student, I might have persevered. (Except that it took years of sitting on my butt as a poorly paid doorman/security guard with access to word processing to get over my "paralysis of perfectionism" writers block.)
He took some flack a few years ago for a book he co-wrote about Israel. I find him to be one of the most objective and cogent commentators, from a mainstream position, on these matters. This article is a very good summary of where Israel and the Palestinians are most likely headed.
Someguy, note the source! It's not that I discount all conservative media. I just evaluate authors, partly, on where they publish.
Barry, I now agree with Karen. Perhaps the "If Only Americans Knew" thread could be split? Leaving the odious stuff from early on in the C&Un-C box, and moving the recent, cordial, rational, civil exchanges to either WaccoTalk or WaccoReader. What say?
