Suggestion - how 'bout loosening up a bit on the avatars? The avatar restrictions are so tight here (80 by 80 pixels or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller), and that's for donating members! It would liven up the look of the board, and contribute to members' creative outlets if you, say, increased the avatar size to...125X125 for everyone. That way we'd at least be able to see at least a little detail of who embers are representing themselves to be.

Oh, and how 'bout allowing animated gifs for contributing members?

I can see maybe, why you made avatars so small...bandwidth issues. But since you first set those restrictions, connection speeds and bandwidth for the huge majority of forum visitors has increased dramatically.

C'mon guy, loosen up on avatar restrictions; let's all get visually creative, and have a bit more fun!

OK, OK....

I've upped the image size to 100 x 100 (125 seems too big) and filesize by a factor of 10 for supporting members.

Animated .gifs have always been allowed but perhaps the filesize restriction prevented them. There's still something flakey in the process but I got mine to work. Even though you may get a "file upload error" it may work. You can also try referencing an image already stored on the internet.

How about helping out and encourage people to set an avatar and perhaps some good resources to find one? I encourage people to use a picture of themselves, but that's not required. The only thing prohibited at the moment is to use a picture of some other human.
