We should learn from this man.

Obama's seeming lack of movement on immigration reform has people across the whole political spectrum wailing and gnashing their teeth. Build more fence! Militarize the border! Card 'em if they're brown! Or National ID cards now! Reform drug laws! Respect all colors! Jail law-breaking employers!

Everyone wants action - NOW DAMMIT! Quit dithering Obama!

It's easy to feel great frustration; real immigration reform has been scrupulously avoided by politicians for decades now. But blaming Obama for lack of reform is overly simplistic, not to mention unfair.

Like any good law professor knows, you "get all your ducks in a row" before you form your position and take action. We're learning that, though it's maddening to the impatient, Obama has a highly disciplined and methodic mind, still in the process of organizing those ducks. This process, despite little inherited distractions like two wars, crying need for regulatory reform in myriad places, and a southern sea that's rapidly turning to sludge.

This snapshot in time from Politico illustrates that, appearances seemingly to the contrary, Obama is dealing with immigration reform like a good law professor. He knows there're wide-ranging opinions on what should be done, even within his own party. He's getting his ducks in a row, to get something formed that will survive the unavoidable slog through the congressional gauntlet.

But Someguy, you neglected to provide more information about Kyl's YouTube faux pas, which you're quoting above:

From Mediaite (https://www.mediaite.com/online/on-second-thought-jon-kyl-claims-obamas-border-comments-taken-a-bit-out-of-context/):

https://www.mediaite.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/kyl_obama.jpgEarlier this week, Senator Jon Kyl claimed that President Obama had (https://www.mediaite.com/online/sen-kyl-claims-obama-told-him-no-border-security-until-amnesty-passes/) had told him that border security was politically problematic, quoting the President as saying, “If we secure the border, then you all won’t have any reason to support ‘comprehensive immigration reform.” The White House rebuked the claim (https://www.mediaite.com/online/is-the-white-house-calling-senator-jon-kyl-a-liar-pretty-much/), ostensibly calling Arizona junior Senator a liar. Well, now Kyl is walking his original quote back, claiming that it was “taken a bit out of context.” Writing for the Washington Post, Rachel Weiner reports (https://voices.washingtonpost.com/44/2010/06/jon-kyl-walks-back-white-house.html?wprss=44):
Kyl was quoted: “The president said the problem is if we secure the border, then you all won’t have any reason to support comprehensive immigration reform. In other words, they’re holding it hostage.”
In an interview with National Review, Kyl explained:
Kyl tells us that the comments were “taken a bit out of context,” and that the “they” he was referring to was the Left, “the president’s base,” and not the administration. “I did not try to start a fight. This meeting happened a month ago and we were talking in the context of his political problems. He was talking about how they think that if we secure the border, you guys [Republicans] won’t have the incentive to work on comprehensive immigration reform.”

Heh...since YouTube, a GOP pol just can't get away with saying anything, can they? Sheesh!
