Please read below and help if you can with a feral colony that
has to be moved and also health-certified. Financial and other
help needed, or does anyone know a vet who could do this
pro bono. Thanks, Kate
Hello - please forward this to any feral rescue folks. It is 6/19/10.
We are trying to rescue a feral colony on a foreclosed house. The owner was
evicted and lost his job and his car broke down, and he can't deal with his 9
cats. We have been feeding them, as well as our own colony nearby. They are
all spayed and neutered, had shots at that time, and 1 is a very sweet tame
old skinny gal on her last legs, Flora. Another is a skittish guy, Bob, who
is very sweet. The rest are pretty feral. We need help, and the new owner
will be taking over the property this week and said
we cant be on the
property to feed them after Thursday, so it is a dire situation. I work 11
hr days, and we can't really deal with it.
I've phoned a number of places, and McDonald Ranch
has agreed to take some of
them IF I get vaccinations and a vet certification of health. My vet won't
give me a price break, and said they would have to sedate them to get blood
tests and vaccinate, which would cost a bundle for 9 cats. We need a vet who
can certify them healthy. If any have leukemia, they would need to be put
down. The county will only put them down. Any ideas of who might do the test
pro bono, and whether there are any other places for ferals to be moved to? The
old gal could use a good home. If anyone can help us we would be most
grateful. We have traps, just no time to deal with it before Thurs.
Thanks Randi & Jane
