Hello Sebastopol,
June is finally bringing some warmer weather, so now I have no excuse https://www.waccobb.net/forums/waccobb/ImagesforMembers/2010-06-18_1358.png
not to clean up the yard!
Warm weather will bring more people to the parks for events and
picnics. Just a reminder that a city ordinance was passed that
prohibits smoking in the parks.
Congratulations to all of the graduates of 2010. I hope all of the
parties and celebrations are fun and safe.
Coming soon on Saturday, July 3 will be the annual Kiwanis Club
Fireworks at Analy. Speaking of safety, that is the best way to enjoy
fireworks by coming and watching a professional show. All of the
proceeds go back into the community to fund education and the arts.
Consider being a sponsor for the event, too.
Sebastopol's entrepreneurs are going to get some help. We have
created a Business Incubator Committee to help start new businesses,
enable them to grow and to stay in Sebastopol. I have been working
with Council Member Robinson and a group of community volunteers to
create a co-working, meeting and business instructional space in
downtown Sebasopol. We call it the Sebastopol Entrepreneurs Project.
We are seeking volunteer instructors to provide professional guidance
to the entrepreneurs, such as business and financial planning and
website design. We plan to "open the door" in the fall, so let me
know if you are interested in helping.
I will host the quarterly Neighborhood Representatives Meeting on July
22, 7:00-8:30pm at the Sebastopol Library Forum Room. The format will
be a town hall, and the special guest will be Supervisor Efren
Carrillo. We will take all of your questions!
I have been talking with the Main Street business owners about ways to
improve the appearance of our downtown shopping area. We are working
with some ideas to create a contiguous look for the three blocks from
Wilton to the Post Office. Hopefully by Christmas, we will see some
festive changes.
The Council is planning to sponsor a design contest for the city's 4
entry signs. We could not come to consensus on the designs submitted,
so we will see what our area designers and artists can create.
Speaking of more changes, Ives Park has been the focus of discussion
about ways to improve its appearance. The Planning Commission will be
discussing this, and they have received plans and ideas from a
community group.
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. The next city
Council meeting will be June 16. Hope to see you there.
Best to you,
Kathleen
