My dog has cracked her dew claw to the point where it is hanging and there is a substantial amount of nerve just hanging out to air. Can I super glue it to hold it a while til it can grow in or would that be horrible for the nerve? Should I pad it with cotton and wrap it to cushion and protect from snagging? The bottom end of the nail is still attached at at the bottom base and fits around the quick for now. There does not seem to be any swelling or redness or any signs of infection. I cringe to look at it, thanks for your advice in advance. Mindy

It may require vet services. I'd do some research online. EHow.com can be very useful. Just type in "cracked dew claw", and you'll get some immediate helpful information. It's hard to imagine that this isn't painful
for the dog.

I ended up at justanswer.com and learned that superglue would be ok. Meanwhile, the hanging portion of the nail fell off and I was miraculously able to retract the nerve back into the remaining nail! I am relieved and grateful. She is not bothering it at all, no signs or symptoms of infection or pain. Thanks for your reply and concern. Mindy
