Many of you know that the situation in Darfur is not getting any better. Today I'm helping circulate a petition from my friend Ruth Messinger asking you to help in the American Jewish World Service's efforts stop this horrible genocide. I am writing to ask you to help stop genocide and save the people of Darfur. Send President Bush a clear message that American Jews will not stand idly by and watch the first genocide of the 21st century unfold. As a result of our work and the work of activists around the world, change is slowly starting to happen. President Bush, Congress and the UN have begun to make specific overtures to address the ongoing rape, murder and violence in Darfur.
While this change in rhetoric is a step in the right direction, the fact remains that there is still no resolve and no commitment from the United States to send troops to the area, no timetable for action and no mandate for civilian protection (https://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?key=103926479&url_num=5&url=https://action.ajws.org/campaign/millionvoices?source=dar306e_alternet). In short, although words are encouraging, they are useless without substantive action.
That's where you come in. Together, we can help turn words into action.

Come to the April 30 Rally in Washington: (https://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?key=103926479&url_num=7&url=https://action.ajws.org/campaign/millionvoices?source=dar306e_alternet) Be part of the national rally against the genocide in Darfur. Pledge to be there.
