I finally got the courage to open the snow leopard package and when I tried to install it, my cd drawer repeatedly opened and spit it out, after some worrisome whirring. Can I replace the drive or whatever it is called? I know it is not a cd player. I am remembering it last worked back in the day of dial-up net-zero days when I had to reinstall that disc on one occasion. I would love to hear that they are readily and cheaply available and easily installed and that snow leopard will work perfectly after all.....and you are willing and able to come and fix it for me and install the updated os.......Thanks Mindy

OK. A couple of things. It must be an Intel Mac, NOT PPC (Apple Menu > About this Mac > Processor -- it should be Intel, not PPC). Also, are you running 10.4 or 10.5 currently? There are certain things to do ahead of time to get the 'table set' for Sno Leo if all else is in order. For instance, at LEAST 512mb of memory. I also have an external CD/DVD unit that could be used to install, if need be. Keepa me posted . . .

Thanks to Mark for contacting me and explaining my options. I think I am going to upgrade the old machine to 10.5 for now, if that will be enough to install the newer version of firefox, which is what started me down this path initially.....I will be happy. I need destructions to bring the machine to you. Phone or type will be fine. Thanks again, you were very concise and very helpful and knowledgeable and I wanted to make sure I posted that fact somewhere. Mindy
