First, let me get this out of the way....this is NOT my business, nor do I even know the owners of the business. I just want to make a recommendation.

I've discovered a rather new place to grab a very affordable meal just west of Guerneville on River Road (hwy 116). It's at George's Hideaway, and it's called TJ's. There have been various folks that have started up food service at this location in the past - hey, it's an old roadhouse that's been there for years, however this new group (as of 2010) of folks are doing an outstanding job. I just wanted to pass along a recommendation.

I work nearby, and so it's been convenient for me to stop by on my way home and grab a bite to eat. The food is DELICIOUS! I always go for the specials, which seem to change nightly, and haven't yet tried the burgers and onion rings (although I'm mighty tempted at those beautiful rings), and I continue to be very pleased with the quality of food.

Their soups are to die for! I had the best split pea/ham, and a tasty and full of flavor potatoe soup with bits of bacon and shredded cheese on top, however the very best is their Salmon Chowder. Oh my gosh....it is devine.
A bowl of soup is only $4! The dinners range from about $9 to $18, including prime rib. They've had good veggie specials, too, and are still working out their menu. I'm sure they would welcome recommendations.

They are closed Tues and Wed, and weekdays close rather early, so if you are in the area and hungry, I suggest you stop in for a meal. I love the casual vibe - eat at the bar or at a table or in the dining room, no fancy dress required, and of course I absolutely love the old roadhouse and it's history. There aren't many left like this one. It's a gem, and so are the folks running the place.

Did I also mention the well drinks are only $3.50? Such a deal! I like the people who show up there, too, local neighbors, all sorts of folks who are friendly and welcoming.

I see they are gearing up for BBQ as the weather improves, and based on the food so far, that promises to also be a winner. Get a delicious, affordable meal at TJs, and you'll still have room in your budget for a couple of well drinks at the bar, too. Even in this economy, I can afford to eat here.
I'm a pretty darn good cook, but not anywhere as good as the meals I've had here. Give them a try. I hope they succeed. I want to be able to continue to eat here for a very long time.

TJ's at George's Hideaway is about 1 - 2 miles beyond Guerneville, but before you get to the golf course. It's on the right in that great old roadhouse on your right as you are headed west.

The old roadhouse is actually an original old train-station house that had rooms for rent on top. Later on the rooms where used for people to stay who had a little bit to much from the bar... the rooms are closed now. It's one of the last few old originals left...
