What are the perspectives of NATO expansion? Is U.S. policy in Afghanistan escalating the war in the region?

To discuss this and much more, RT interviews Professor Noam Chomsky, political activist, philosopher, and author.

RT: Professor Chomsky, thank you very much for joining us today. You said that president Obama is simply recycling Bush’s plans when it comes to bank reform, and not getting to the heart of the problem. What do you mean by that?

Noam Chomsky: The essence of the Obama – Gartner program is not all that different from the Bush – Paulsen programs, and it has been pointed out by plenty of leading specialists.

Yeah Noam. It's sad but people need to wake up. It's not going to be quite that easy to overthrow our masters. We need to think outside the box[stystem]- revolution, inner or outer, which ever you prefer.

Do you think that now these liberals will get the message now that its being delivered by one of their prophets? I'll make the safe bet and go with No.

No, I think that for almost everyone, left or right, the reality of the new America is just too painful and scary to accept.

It would mean giving up cherished notions about our fundamental identity and place in the world, and it would mean grieving for what we have lost.

I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing though. These are truly the good ol' days, and whatever people can do to make their lives and those around them more comfortable is okay with me. I have no illusions about us changing the status quo.

As Obama has not changed that much from Bush, this guy has not changed much from the old rhetoric he has spouted for years. He was a brilliant linguist, no doubt, however his notions and applications to the political life have influenced greater numbers of folks than the value contained therein. It's not that he should have stuck to teaching why kittens can't talk, it's just that what he says has very little meaning in a world made of up of actual realities, other than his followers.

it's just that what [Chomsky] says has very little meaning in a world made of up of actual realities, other than his followers.

The interview is only 12 minutes long, you can easily watch it: He talks about US policies with respect to Iran, Afghanistan, Russia. And, internally, US fiscal policy. Which of his ideas have "very little meaning" and why?
