Okay.....What restaurant (anywhere in Sonoma Co.) do you think has the best fresh gnocchi?...

The best gnocchi I've had (on any regular basis) were served up by the now-defunct Fabiani's near 2nd St. in Santa Rosa. But... Franco Fabiani has now opened Franco's at 505 Mendocino in Santa Rosa (attached to the new Chrome Lotus Nightclub). Have no idea if gnocchi are on the menu, but if they are, give 'em a try!

Had some really awesome gnocchi once at Farmhouse Inn in Forestville. Yup, tres expensive--it was a very special occasion. But good gnocchi are hard to come by and they take a patient talent like only a nonna (or a dedicated cook) can provide.

Over the years, I've tried packaged ones (hard, gummy) and once tried to make my own, but the work didn't produce the desired result.

Good luck in your search! It's a holy grail of sorts...

Thanks Bird...

There are two Italian Restaurants in Petaluma where I had some pretty good house made gnocchi...Yes, after having the fresh made one realizes how horrible the packaged stuff tastes...I haven't gotten around to trying to make it myself yet - I'm just not that patient...

I hadn't heard of Franco's so I will go see what's on their menu...And I'm still wanting to try out the Farmhouse Inn...

I knew there was another place I'd had great gnocchi--Cafe Paradiso in Petaluma. Thanks for reminding me.

Although it has been a while since I was there, I had some of the best gnocchi I've ever tasted at Della Santina's in downtown Sonoma. And I second (or third) the suggestion of Cucina Paradiso.

You might also check out Santi, which just opened after relocating to Santa Rosa. Gnocchi is not on the menu posted at tavernasanti.com but I wouldn't be surprised if it turned up later or as a special. The chef is outstanding.
