Hi yawl.
I switched from Comcast to ATT and having problems with their service, support, everything, I switched back to Comcast though I kept the @att.net email address.

Been told by several people, over the course of months, that they've sent me emails which I've not gotten. I asked both Comcast and ATT to help track and correct this. Comcast says they can't track the att.net address and ATT says I'm not their customer. I am desperate to straighten this out...

Can anyone offer any help on this?

since you're no longer paying ATT, why do you expect them to continue handling your email? Probably your best bet for the future is to use a "free" email address such as hotmail that you can access from any ISP.

i have the att.net email address on many ads and cards so changing email addresses is not an option now. seems like i need to return to ATT as provider to get straightened out - hopefully (they didn't / couldn't when i was with them initially...). FYI, comcast, while having assured me that i could keep that address AND have them as my service, now says they can't fix problem cause it's not their address. spent another 1/12 hours with their tech support today.

This is an unfortunate example of why you should use an email address that YOU have full control over. Not a free email address, but a domain that you own.

Sonic.net provides a free new portable domain name and website to broadband customers, so you could be [email protected] or whatever you liked. There's no cost except for the $9.95 annual registry fee after the first year.

If you ever move out of the area, you can continue to host the email & domain name and website at Sonic.net for $5.95/mo, or move it somewhere else! You own and control it - and that's really important if it's an address you plan to publish on advertisements, business cards, etc.

Hi Judith,

I have no idea if this is of any help; but one time I thought my emails were disappearing because I'd read them and then they would disappear. I could not figure it out until I realized one day that up near the top left of my outlook express email page there was a place that had an option for my email "views". I suddenly realized that somehow the setting had been changed to "hide read messages" instead of "view all messages". I don't know if you use outlook express, but if you don't there might be something similar in another email client. Just thought I'd put that out there in case you were experiencing the same thing. It's also pretty cheap to buy a URL (for example, you could buy "judeiam.com", it's available) and have it forward to your current mail account. Then if you change, you just reset the forwarding. So, for example, '[email protected]' goes where ever I want it to; I'm not trapped with any provider. Even for strictly personal use, it's been a big help, and for business use I'd think it was essential.


..i have the att.net email address on many ads and cards so changing email addresses is not an option now..

At this point, you're at AT&T's mercy, as you've printed their address on your business cards. It's just a good lesson for the future and for others.
