Here is the link.......https://video.pbs.org/video/1461557530/ Good commentary but unfortunately the comment and analysis was by western intellectuals. Buddhist practice has been in the West for less than a century, but some seem to feel they got it already.....

Study Buddhism from the eastern view. We are still infants. I do have to chuckle at the psychiatrists and poets explanations. They totally miss the point.

Sometimes the "intellectual" view is just repeating someone else's words. Compassion and altruism is experienced, not taught.

We can all learn from the Buddhist view.... Christian, Jew, Muslim alike

Wasn't Buddha considered a white guy? Part of the conquering tribes, warrior etc of that land? Strange....he is told of suffering, death, disease, so he goes and parties hardy? And later on he learns compassion. Then he marries and had mad sex and then calls his child a burden, weight and anchor! I prefer what those Zen folks did with the message. Fewer words and more action. But thanks. I missed the beginning and glad I could watch it until I caught up. It's done in an awfully childish manner though; mostly tales and child-like images. Makes me wonder the eventual market for this piece. Naw, I am sure what this piece will be marketed towards. Interesting what world view was developed from those cultures that held him as The Model. To complex for me though.

The Buddha was actually Indian/Nepalese. Yeah, the myths, strories, etc are a little different, but most religions seem to have them in their history. I think the Bible has more than any other religion. I'm not putting down the Bible, but I guess these myths served a purpose in the past.

I prefer listening to the Dalai Lama speak about Buddhism. More to the point, clearer and not sectarian in his talks.

Yeah, I know where he was born but I was under the impression that he was Aryan. Those guys got around a lot and bred like bunnies! But I believe that is one of the stories, no?
Naw, and we are more in touch with the Bible due to our language and culture so it is easier to find what many consider myths. I am sure there are 100 million stories on the Buddha as well, if simply because they have an older culture built around him and more folks to promulgate such.
I too would rather listen to the Dali Lama. He's cool. I also understand he's god, or The Buddha for this age. Seems that is their tradition as well. When he dies a bunch of guys will get together, divine the signs, then go and find the next one, if they can. Wow, imagine looking for a leader! Almost genetic, no?
