Good news for our residents along Bodega Avenue! Public works have installed two new speed meters, one at Burbank Heights and one at the Valley View/Ragle Avenue area to Slow Down Sebastopol!

On April 1st, to celebrate installation of the new speed meters, the City of Sebastopol will award to the driver who achieves the highest numeral on the meter a gift certificate for 100 free gallons of gas. It is expected that a triple-digit figure will be needed to win. The contest starts and ends on April 1.

Blast! Would that I had read my WaccoBB email before making the 10 mile round trip to the store this morning. I could have rev'd up my S-10 Xtreme and won that 100 gallons of gas.Big Smile

If we're done with the April Fools Blarney (which I love, thank you very much!) I just wanted to mention my experience with the "speed meter" (new term for me!) on 116 as you enter Forestville from the Graton side.

It's been there many months now. When it was first put in, people slowed down to meet the 25 mph requirement.

I've noticed for many a week now that most people pretty much ignore it. These things, based on my single anecdotal testimony, have limited use value.

A Table! C'est Pret!!

I recently got a letter from the Sebastopol Police Department, telling me that a camera, (or "speed meter"?), had clocked me, on Bodega, at ten miles above the speed limit.. my reaction was mixed.. I was a bit annoyed, yet also relieved that I had not gotten a speeding ticket.. I would say that the combination of cameras and warning letters is an effective deterrent, in my case, at least.. I'm now quite aware that the Sebastopol police are extra diligent about speeding in town, and on the way to Santa Rosa.. a route I use every week, though I live in Sonoma.

Scott.

I appreciate the new meters. Partly because I hated the red "Slow Down" signs. The new meters are like a game that makes driving fun again. I am always amazed at how fast we get going down that hill in front of Luther Burbank Gardens. So far, everyone seems to almost slam on the breaks when they see how much they are speeding. Let's see if it lasts. I hope so.

I agree with Pearl - I appreciate the meters. I would not classify myself as a speeder particularly in town, but I deserverdly received a ticket there and had no clue I was speeding coming down that hill.
