I read in yesterday's paper about how you'll not be running for Sebastopol City Council for a fourth term.
As someone who campaigned for your first term back in 2000, before ever meeting you. I was the Secretary Treasurer of the GPSC at the time, immersed in the local Nader campaign. I only heard of you and Sam in the late, late summer or early fall of that year. I'd met Craig briefly in the fall of '98 at ProgFest when he was promoting chemical monitoring of vineyards.
I got to know you all from a few direct encounters and the reporting on Sebasto CC doings in the paper, plus your wonderful Poem thread here on waccobb.
I've never really been into poetry, I prefer novels, but your sharing of generally great work from poets, in a convenient package, has given me more exposure to poetry in the last few years than in three plus decades prior. Plus I was able to use some of those poems in my correctional teaching job, continued gratitude for all that!
Your equanimity, savoir faire and wisdom are really impressive. Those meetings are attrociously and excrutiatingly boring, for the most part.
You've handled yourself, and your city's business in as irreproachable a manner as I can imagine. The editors and reporters at the PD are always looking for a way to disparage local politicians, especially those on the left end of the political spectrum. As far as I can tell, you've never given them the remotest opportunity. That takes a kind of patience and diplomacy that escapes the likes of me.
Congratulations on a job masterfully done.
Your rest from it will be well deserved.
