My name is Leah and I am the manager of a restaurant in Sebastopol, we recently started composting our food scraps and I was wondering if anyone wants/needs this rich plant material (also seafood scraps) for their garden or farm. Please contact me, all buckets will be provided, yield is approx 5 gallons 3-4 times per week....

Yea!
I'm one of the composters covering Tozai, and some other local businesses..
Perhaps soon, like in San Francisco, We will be composting all our organic waste locally! Toward that end, I am including
and instructions here for people to use freely to create your own compost system.
Food-waste in Landfill is a huge problem causing green house gases, and climate change. Not to mention the fuel needed to transport it.
currently, there are new community and school gardens popping up everywhere,if you feel you can't compost at home, Take your food to the gardens and compost it there!

Fantastic! And thanks. Couple of things forgotten, do not put into the compost pile meats, oils, fats. Yes, I know S.F. does it but it is their government that does such, not the regular back yard folks. If regular folks do such they will attract 'coons, rats, skunks and other animals undesirable to the home owner. I am surprised you did not mention the "rapid" composting method which can be done in as little as 2 weeks, but is very labor intensive, as in "for younger folks".

Oh yeah, one need not buy $100 worth of wood as in the below photo. Simple chicken wire in a circle but the with a diameter at least 3 feet, but bigger is better as long the "turner" can reach into middle of the pile to turn. You did good, thanks.

Gee thanks Len, and if you had read my piece, you would now know that,as I said
YOU CAN COMPOST ANY FOOD IF YOUR SYSTEM IS CORRECTLY MADE AND USED
I have debated and cleared this information with U.C.Davis Ag. extension, and U.C Berkley by e mail, and gotten an agreement with
"Master Gardeners"of U ,C. to re print their 1 1 yer old out dated
fliers that repeat this nonsense that was perpetrated on us by the
Garbage cartels and the health department in the 70's, when they were going to outlaw composting because some smart guy saw the future and realized that eventually, people would stop paying for a service that was, and is unnecessary, and environmentally destructive . the cartels lose about 3/4's of their carrying weight this way sad. but I'm sure they made up for this long ago by becoming the original "green" business and getting endless govt.grants to save the planet in one way or the other.
(NICO) The reason I compost, besides the fact that there is a world shortage of topsoil,is environmental,if unknowing or uninterested people keep putting food,ESPECIALLY meat cheese, eggs etc in the landfill,my 30 years of impassioned teaching goes to waste literally, and the dump-smog continues to be a greater threat to world weather than fossil fuels.

The photo is above, and uses $60.00 worth of wood ,and can be easily made with scrap wood and is varmit "proof", unlike chicken wire.

I have been composting for 30 yrs,I run 3 hot systems and 15 worm systems.
Thanks, for contradicting me, and giving me this opportunity to "rant" a little now Barry will probably move us to the "discussions" board. I guess, in your own way, You did good to.

Nico, being just a guy, and an old one at that, my charge is not as high powered as yours, nor as poltical. I am simply trying to reach ordinary people doing their own thing and not 'bringing down' cartels, gov'ts, nor exposing the 'lies' of the University system. I will leave all that energy to you young men, including the turning of all the large piles you wish. The 'correctly made' portion of your presentation did not exactly clarify for most folks how to escape the problems that come with composting meats, fats, oils and the like, so my measly 2 cents were put into the game. And as you know, for most folks DON'T composte that stuff. Good luck on your end.
