View Full Version : Cat left behind?

I was driving past the farm of someone I once knew, and was surprised to see a For Sale sign posted on the property. I stopped to see if anyone was there, and the house was empty. However, there was a sweet black female cat on the porch desperate for attention. This was out on Burnside Road at the intersection of Helen (or Helena?), a blue farmhouse set back a bit from the road on the corner.

I pet the cat, and she slobbered all over me with her drool. I think perhaps she somehow got left behind. I lost a cat during a move once, and I've felt horrible ever since. She couldn't get enough pets, and was purring and purring....she did not want to leave the porch. I felt she was waiting for her family to return.

This had been the home of Dr. Norman Zucker and his wife Cat, last I knew. I have no idea where they are. If anyone is in contact with them, would you kindly let him know this cat is there waiting on the front porch? Maybe it hid during the move, however it's back, and she is very lonely.

If Norman doesn't want the cat and left her on purpose, please advise so maybe people in the community can rehome her. She seems sweet and very affectionate.

I already have my quota of cats, and they wouldn't accept a stranger anyway. I felt bad leaving her there alone.

I do so hope you will go back and feed her and make sure she has water, and maybe a nice warm blanket or bed of some sort, or better yet find out if a neighbor is looking after her in some way.

And, it would be nice if the cat's family can go back and get her.

Thanks for your concern for such an innocent animal. You know she is lonely and worried.

I believe the address is 2405 Burnside (or maybe 2408). The cross street, according to a map is Lynn.

The cats were left behind! The house was foreclosed, Zuckers have moved to Petaluma somewhere. I heard a neighbor is perhaps reluctantly feeding them. the address is 2405, the blue house down the Helena Road off Burnside.

This is appalling, and all too common. Why don't people like this at least have the decency to drop their pets off at the animal shelter?

I personally don't think it's decent to drop of a pet at the animal shelter because then it only has a short time span, a few days, in which if the animal is not adopted it is euthanized. It stands a better chance OUT of the shelter, in my opinion, provided one actively seeks a new home for the pet.

I agree, this is appalling, and there are other alternatives, like posting here, to find a new home rather than just abandoning their pet.

Anyone want a cute black, cuddly female adult cat? She needs a home!

No, that's only true if you take them to the Animal Control over by the airport. The Humane Society on hwy 12 is a "no kill" facility, if they take the pet, it will stay there until they find it a home. Most shelters in the county go to great lengths to find homes for tame cats and dogs, often keeping them for months before they find a home.

Also, Pets Lifeline in Sonoma finds homes for animals, without any euthanization.

Having been this route when I became homeless, I called the Humane Society and in order to surrender my cats to them, they require a fee be paid for each cat. I couldn't pay for rent, so there was no money to pay for the Humane Society. I did find some wonderful people who could take care of them till I got back on my feet. I am very grateful for the help of people in the community, so that when I had a home, I could recover my beloved kitties.

I wish I could take this one. I am hoping a home opens up for her.
