I have been with Wildblue for a long time and for some months have had only very weak signals. Before switching to yet another "service" provider, I have tried to reach them on the web and by telephone. Same no response...

Any ideas, anyone?

I am also with Wild Blue and notice that when the weather is as bad as it's been I loose a lot of speed. Sometime I lose the signal entirely.

Heavy weather disturbs all satellite reception, not just Wildblue. This seems to have been a particularly bad season compared to the last two drier years. My experience with Wildblue is that before you reach technical support---if weather is a problem in your area---you receive an appropriate message. I have had very good service from their support group.

Even in the worst of the storms I have been able to recycle the modem (off, wait one minute, on) to restore reception, but not always at top speed.

When I had Wildblue I had to reset the connection almost daily. I'm glad to have Comcast now. Watching movies on Youtube and Netflix used to use up my monthly bandwidth allotment really quickly with satellite.

I had Wildblue for about 1 year. I had to pay about $700 + to get it installed on my roof as I live in a rural hilly area with 10 acres of tall trees in VT.

We had 2 computers running as I have a business & was opening many PDFs I never downloaded movies but about 1-2 / month watched CSI & started getting email saying I was using too much bandwidth. I was paying $79.95 / month for their largest package knowing I would need it. They kept sending nasty sounding emails saying if I didn’t reduce my bandwidth usage they would reduce the amount I could receive. Of coarse I would reply to their emails saying why don’t you have a plan with unlimited etc. They never replied.

All of a sudden I could not open some of the large PDF's and could not receive the CSI flow due to they did slow down my incoming bandwidth.

The only thing I could do was told them to shut off my service as I was toughly dissatisfied with their service.

They of coarse did. Now I am on dial-up at a saving of $70 / month & still in business.

I am not in a area with cable as I live on a dirt road in rural VT with lots of natural beauty but no tech advantages. It’s well Worth it.

The limitations on bandwidth have nothing to do with the speed of the downloads...which is why you pay more. The total usage allowed per month on a rolling 30 day schedule is set by the government. Believe me...I had it out with Wildblue more than once until someone explained it to me.

If you exceed your 30 day allotment they slow down your speed to a crawl until you are at 70% of your allotment on the 30 day calender.

Again...I'm glad to have comcast.

I am furious with Wildblue and with Sonic for getting us loyal Sonic customers to hook up with such a non-user-friendly service. I spent the $700 and now find out that we don't even own the system we paid for -- and when I went over limit, I got stuck on dial-up for 30 days - but still got charged the $70 a month satellite fee. And it looks like I'm stuck with them as I do not live where another service can help me and wi-fi is not available either... I argued with Sonic over numerous phone calls and sadly got nowhere as they just blame Wildblue... Thanks Sonic -- dialup for $70/month -- what a deal!:puteranger:

I can really understand your frustration, Kym. We are living in an age of stick-it-to-'em, the glib and greedy riding on the success of our noble leaders in national government for the last 40 years -- or maybe since the pyramids... A fight on every corner of every street.
Courage and humor!

The only other service I am aware of is Pogo Wave. They are relatively limited in range and I don't think they are a huge step up from Wildblue in terms of your allowed usage. We almost set up a Pogo Wave system but in Mid-2007 Wildblue opened up their new satellite that ranged from Marin County up to Washington State. We were among the first to get set up.

Unfortunately satellite internet has it's limitations with bandwidth and wildblue wants to ensure that it has as many customers as possible using their satellite. They can increase the speed of downloads and uploads but not the total amount used without crashing the system.
