Communities across the country are in need of a new type of economic revitalization -- a type that is based on relocalization of basic needs and essential goods. Localizing food production, bringing back local manufacturing and reintroducing cooperatives are all pieces of this puzzle.

The SHARE EXCHANGE, with a planned September 1, 2010 opening date, will be a central location, a "marketplace" where these things happen under one roof. It is a hub for sustainable living and incubating a vibrant local economy.

Elements of the SHARE EXCHANGE will include: Education & Events, Made Local store, Share Area, Repair & Reuse, Tool Lending Library, Design Lab, Time Banks, Neighborhood Information, Marketplace, Outdoor Seating & Event Space, Access to Santa Rosa Creek & bike path.

Now is the time to get involved if you think your business may be a good fit for the SHARE EXCHANGE. Natural "anchor" partners would be a locally-owned coffee shop, hardware store, used bike shop, natural food market, a repair / reuse workshop, healthy food to-go, any products made in Sonoma County and anything related to art.

Other businesses or or organizations that would be a good fit might relate to health, education, arts, renewable energy, alternative transportation, reusable materials, or anything sustainability-oriented.

Is this the non-profit "market" mentioned in the PD today, March 9th? or is it a third project in downtown Santa Rosa?

No, the SHARE EXCHANGE is not one of the two projects described in today's Press Democrat article referenced below.

The SHARE EXCHANGE is a much smaller, neighborhood-scale project with a different focus than the ones described in the article. The SHARE EXCHANGE will feature resource sharing, enterprise incubation and local economy tools such as time banking, services exchange and a community reinvestment fund.

There's a lot more information at the web site (https://sonomacounty.golocal.coop/share) referenced above and also in the documents which can be downloaded at the bottom of the web page.

Community input will be invaluable at each stage of development in the SHARE EXCHANGE. Sign up HERE (https://sonomacounty.golocal.coop/share/survey/) to be on a mailing list to stay in the loop.
