With all the other blinking things trying to get our attention on line, is anyone else annoyed with these ones on WaCCO bb, and can we eliminate them? Barry?

I presume you are talking about the ads from our sponsors, yes? And/or our smilies? There is the occasional Google ad that blinks too.

I am also not a fan of blinking things. And they are effective.

I try to encourage subtle blinking :) as a good balance.

I think Ashae's banner (by Buffie at Design Orbit (https://www.designorbit.com/)) is a good example of that:

https://www.waccobb.net/forums/waccobb/Banners/Ashae1_lb.gif (https://www.waccobb.net/forums/products-services-offered/60951-fantastic-massage-wonderful-price.html#post102324)

Although, looking at it now, i could see that the delay between the frames could be a bit longer.

The French Garden's one is also good (also by Buffie ):

I notice that my big sky "You're ad here" banner, from a while ago, is a bit blinky, but at least it stops after a few cycles:

https://www.waccobb.net/forums/waccobb/Banners/wacco_sponsor_lb2.gif (https://www.waccobb.net/forums/waccobb-net-faq/10521-promoting-your-business-waccobb-net.html)

This one is more subtle:

https://www.waccobb.net/forums/waccobb/Banners/wacco_sponsor_lb1.gif

But perhaps too subtle. Do you get the joke?

And Buffie's banner is the pinnacle of subtlety:

https://www.waccobb.net/forums/waccobb/Banners/Buffie2_lb.gif (https://www.waccobb.net/openx/www/delivery/ck.php?oaparams=2__bannerid=3__zoneid=5__cb=2eca57afca__oadest=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.designorbit.com)

Did you catch that?

What do you think? Which one's do you like? Which ones start to disturb you? Don't worry. Be honest. I'm sure our current and future sponsors would like to know what you think.

You can see all the current banner ads (https://www.waccobb.net/forums/misc.php?do=bannerlist) by clicking the "See all Sponsors (https://www.waccobb.net/forums/misc.php?do=bannerlist)" link below the main top banner on the website.

A word about our (local) sponsors: They really are "sponsoring" WaccoBB.net so that I can make the service available for free to the vast majority of our members and visitors. Thank You! I also appreciate our commercial supporting members . I must say it warms my  that some of you have chosen to be non-commercial supporting members and support the site solely because of your appreciation and generosity. You can sign up here (https://www.waccobb.net/forums/membership.php)

Later this year, after a major update to the site (the work has begun!), I plan to offer a "pay your own way" option. You'll be able to turn off all the sponsorship ads if you contribute to supporting the site directly (current thinking is $5/month). So you'll have the choice of being sponsored or not.

Perhaps we should a little poll on the attractiveness or our sponsors, sort our own version of the CLIO awards (https://www.clioawards.com/)?

No! The ads are nice; not annoying. I'm talking about the Smilies and ones like it that just go blink blink blink blink blink blink blink blink forever. Adding one of these seems like a poor, and annoying substitute for interesting content. I don't need more assaults on my eyes than there is already.

I'm delighted (and relieved!) to hear you think the ads are nice! I think so too!
Which smilies do you find the most offensive? Anybody else feel this way?

They don't seem to blink at all in Outlook 2007 - when I read the digest email. When I click over to looking at them in Chrome (or other Flash-friendly browsers), I see what you mean.

The ones you marked as subtle I did not see or get the joke. Smilies are silly for me as I generally cannot tell the many differences to get their meaning. Thanks for asking. The ad bar does get a little long a times.....The bunch you pass on the way to the new words on the digest. Mindy

So, TheNazz, My Man,

I take it you don't like to read text with a bunch of smilies mixed in?

Neither do I.

But I only know of one regular poster here who does that. What I do is usually just skim a little faster and tend to discount the content because of that irritation factor.

Are you saying this is a major problem that deserves the banishment of smilies? (Stupid name for them, by the way, but what to do?)

I really like using the "burning green bounce" guy as part of my signature. For reasons I stated once in the past, so I'll leave it out here. Suffice it to say, "lit fart", is part of my attraction to him!

And so I go through the hassle of opening the Smilies page and waiting for it to load every time I post here, just so I can paste it at the end of my bit. Haven't figured out how to permanently bookmark, or copy it, so I don't have to go through the steps to get it every time. Any hints on how to automate it Barry? Oh wait, the signature function! Isn't it cool how many questions answer themselves just by being asked?

So, TheNazz, what is it you really want?

Look! Shiny Things!!!

"Mad" Miles

I don't like most of the ones that blink or jump or wave or rotate, etc. Sometimes they are cute for a second and then annoying.I get migraines and they hurt my eyes and nervous system. I try to scroll past them quickly. And here they are as I post, all doing their things.
