Hi folks,
Earth shattering question here.....

Where can I get decent pita bread in West County? All the local markets seem to just carry Thomas' corporate psudo pita.

I've tried :
Andy's
FirCrest
Pacific Market (nee Fiesta)
Spaceway
Not so Lucky

I'll try Whole$$Foods if I must, but surely there is an alternative?

So much Hummus, so little Pita....

Farmer's Market, Santa Rosa Veterans' Hall parking lot, every Sat. morning, rain or shine, 8:30 - noon or so. Armenian bakery sends stuff with a great guy who also sells amazing sauces (many nondairy). Across from fish stall, and a little bit further south, on east side of Market.

Also has Bolani, stuffed with Spinach... Yummm!

Good luck!

Sally

Trout,

Main Street Deli in Sebastopol. (God damn town, does it have to have everything!?) South bound Gravenstein just before the post office on the West side of the road.

I don't claim it's the "best" pita bread. But Samir does have pita, and lavash. And the best baba ganoush that I've been able to find locally. As well as other Middle Eastern / Arab delicacies. He has felafil, lamb, beef and chicken shawarma (sp?), baklava and boorma, etc. Keep in mind that if you order hummus or baba ganoush to go, he doesn't automatically provide pita, you have to ask for it as well.

And he's open a hell of a lot more than a one morning a week Farmer's Market. I don't know his exact hours. But pretty much every weekday during business hours.

Although the Armenian Bakery sounds very intriguing.

You might try Real Doner in Petaluma (google it or look on my "Miles' Favorite Restaurants" thread for details.) Ask Ozkan if he carries pita, or if he knows who does. Plus if you're a carnivore, he's got the best kabab and gyros around. Doner is just Turkish for gyros.

If there's an equally convenient source of pita bread, with better quality, I'd be happy to know about it!

When the Sebastopol Farmer's Market starts back up you can get good pita from "The Hummus Guy" That's what his label says. He makes a bunch of great stuff. He probably goes to the Santa Rosa FM at the vets building the rest of the year. try him.

Main Street Deli next to the Sebatopol Post Office has a number of middle east products for sale.

Alternatively, Sal's Produce on Commerce Blvd., near the Safeway at RP Expressway, is a store full of middle east foodstuff, produce and meat.
