Communal Hearth: a Proposal.

I would like to propose that a communal site be established where people could come to and communicate face-to-face on any and all issues that are important to them, even issues that are not so important, around a fire.

We need an alternative to our highly complicated ways of interacting with each other that are not quite satisfying.

Such a site would be accessible to every member of community on round-the-clock basis; bring a musical intrument! Bring a soap box! Bring good will! Bring a stick of wood! Bring your own!

The ground rules for behaving around the communal fire would have to be worked out, no doubt--this is something that could be done!

Than you sincerely -

If we, the people, were really sincere about having real Peace in the
world, we would pursue creating Peace by peaceful means more actively
rather than by relying on our military might!

What a lovely idea. Where could we have it? What would it look like? I imagine something that looks like a real fire place with bricks or stones & a chimney, only it stands as an independent structure & is considerably larger & wider than a regular fireplace, It could even have a mantel where visitors leave framed photographs & various knick-knacks, messages & offerings. We could have a contest for folks who want to design the fire place. Even more fun & challenging would be the hearth rug ... a community project made of recycled materials. One of those old-fashioned braided rugs made of whatever folks happen to bring when they feel like working ... Sisal, fabric scraps, grocery store bags, etc? The rug could spiral out eternally.

Wow, sounds like a real bandwidth gobbler. Probably have to wait until a universal hi-speed access system is in place. Personally, I don't need streaming video of someone orally giving their opinion next to a fire. I'm content to "see" them communicate succinctly in print. Or, if one really REALLY needs to share themselves visually and orally, there's YouTube.

I really appreciate the true democracy of being able to skip to the next post, or pause a video when the speaker goes off on an unorganized inane tangent.

If you want to have a forum around a fire, build a firepit in your backyard, hold regularly-scheduled fireside chats, and post the dates here in the events section, and/or wherever else you see fit. Build a firepit, and they will come - the people who feel the need to watch others' lips move by firelight.

Now I'm confused ... I thought she meant an actual physical place with a fire. Though, hee hee, a virtual fire pit could be amusing. Click here to send so & so a marshmallow.

Wups...my bad. I saw "site" as "website".
