Polanski wins best director award at Berlin film festival
One of the greatest directors and screenwriters of the 20th Century, Roman Polanski, is awarded for "Ghost Writer" in the Berlinale Film Festival:

But the unbelievably small minded American people, who are obsessed with pedophilia, want to extradite Polanski, crucify him here in the US, parade him about in the media, make an example of him, in order to satiate their angers and frustrations, which are the consequences of their own colossal stupidities and backwardness.

Despite this, Polanski became, at an early age, a truly great and talented director and screenwriter. Polanski has produced many original ideas, far removed from the beaten path of simplistic and typical American story lines and wanting plots (e.g. the movie "Avatar"). Polanski cinematographic prowess towers over the vast majority of directors and screenwriters today.

This needs to be taken into account as well (but it won't be by Americans, either liberal or conservative).

I am absolutely disgusted by the fact that you are playing this man up to be one of the greatest people of all time. Sure he is a good artist, but that will never excuse drugging, raping, and ass-fucking a thirteen year old girl and fleeing the charges after pleading guilty. Not once in your little rant did you make him out to be anything less than a great person, and that to me is inexcusable. I am guessing you do not have children so its impossible for you to think beyond what you "imagine" is cool and in your mind and an "evolved" view. In my view, a person who is old enough to have sex ought to be able to choose whether e (he/she) has sex and with who, and if e wants to marry, the law should not stand in the way.
The fact that many teenagers are irresponsible is a failure of education, of society, and of society's low expectations that repeatedly tell young adults they are too immature to think for themselves or make their own decisions. It has gotten worse. In Jewish law, a person is an adult at 13. In the sixties, someone 18 or 19 with a high school diploma could get a job and support themselves. Now you're lucky if you can move out of the house by 25. It seems our society is determined to keep everyone young and helpless as long as possible.
In the case of Mr. Polanski, it appears none of this applies. The age of his victim has no bearing whatsoever. Drugging a person into having sex against her better judgement is rape, and the sympathy I had thinking Mr. Polanski was only being prosecuted based on Miss Geimer's age has evaporated. There should be no more mention of her age because it distorts the issue.

I should have said able to conceive. I do not think it is advisable for anyone to be conceiving children at 13-17, but most people want to have sex by then, and it is not for the government to tell them they cannot marry or choose their partner. (This of course does not excuse predatory or misleading sexual advances on the part of others, regardless of age.)
Personally, I think children should be introduced to the ramifications of sex about a year before they are likely to start wanting it themselves. A 12 year old should know that a significantly older person (even 15, let alone 20 or 30) could persuade them into something they'd regret and to be careful. Parents and educators (not the government) have a responsibility to prepare children to handle adult responsibilities before they become adults.
