The Slow Down Sebastopol Campaign is underway! We welcome community support for this monumental, really big, campaign. Really!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

You may have noticed all the signs all over town. The again, you may not as they are kind of small. It was decided that if we make the signs really really REALLY small, folks will simply have to slow down to read them. Another benefit of the microscopic signs is that anyone, no matter what their strength or age, anyone can pick one up and hurl it at oncoming traffic, in an attempt to get them to slow down a bit.

“People are encouraged to proudly display them in their yards too”, says one City Staffer; “You can put them up in your yard, to discourage reckless driving across your front yard, I mean, no one wants some fool driving fast through their rhododendrons, do they?

Insider information revealed yesterday that the signs are kind of small.

Other insider information, revealed the fact that the signs are kind of small because; “after we paid for the logo, we only had enough money for about four feet of that strange red sign plastic we used, so we cut them into small, REALLY SMALL pieces to spread it out a bit- I mean, it’s not like that Local Flavor Apple, we can’t just stick it on mugs n stuff…”

If you would like to display a yard sign, they can be picked up at City hall and Police Services. Just leave your name, address, and some doughnuts for the patrol officers so they will leave your signs in the grass. Oh, and so we can pick them up at the end of the campaign because we gotta reuse them or someone will be really embarrassed about the expense.

And Coming in March: Run Fast <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Sebastopol!
To be fair, Sebastopol City Council decided to side, during the month of March, with the reckless drivers of fast automobiles. “We call it ‘Run Fast Sebastopol!’ Says Kathleen Shaffer, and the signs will all have buckets located on all street corners, the buckets will be full of ice and Red Bulls, so folks can get enough energy to haul ass across those busy intersections trying to outrun those fast moving cars!”

How many doughnuts do I need to bribe them with to end this campaign soon? Or is going to end in February as promised? Seriously the signs are ugly and stupid. Pleas read the other thread on this topic. We get it. We will be good drivers. But others won't. I would like to add that my dear friend was permanently disabled by a bicyclist in Sebastopol, not a motorist. She was walking (not running). Let's do something about bicyclists too? I think not. Let us "police" ourselves for a CHANGE.

What is the big deal? Simply slow down.
And while you're at it, please stop tailgaiting and
please actually stop at a stop sign.
There are those who appreciate the
Slow Down Sebastopol signs because
they're at least making us think about our
driving habits. Bottom line, please be respectful,
courteous, and safe while driving... same basic
rules of life.
One more thing, put away those cell phone while driving,
please.
