View Full Version : Bikes stolen
My daughter's bike and my bike were stolen from our home on Lynch Road last night.
They are a grey and blue "Giant" bike and a white bike with a light and generator.
Any suggestions on what I should do?
I'm wondering if there's somewhere stolen bikes end up getting sold around here. Willing to buy them back, they're not valuable but they're ours.
Thank you!

Umm... Report it to the cops? Especially if you have serial numbers.
Otherwise, good luck. If there's a black market in stolen bikes, I'm not aware of it, but I don't operate in that kind of scene, and since I no longer see my students in West Block of San Quentin, I'm no longer positioned to ask around with the criminal class. (Sic.)
It's no excuse, but as times get tougher we can expect more property crimes perpetrated by the addicted and desperate. More's the pity. And the outrage.
I hope you get them back, the bikes that is.
The thief? Thieves? Not so much.
Does everyone know that with the parole reforms now in place to save the state money on corrections, that many property crimes are less likely to result in jail/prison time? And parole violations such as not reporting, dirty tests and other acts that used to get one a few months back in prison, will no longer. One DA in a California county termed it, "decriminalization of property crimes".
Yeah, save money by booting teachers and education/rehab programs from prison (all of 1% of the entire corrections budget! that'll show them...), when there wasn't enough to address the need to begin with. Save some more by dumping "low level" (i.e. nonviolent) offenders back into the counties for the Sheriff's and City Cops to deal with, That'll save LOTS of money!!! Whoohooo!!!!
All I can seriously recommend is locking up your bikes and every other kind of personal shit (I mean stuff) because there are going to be more and more hungry, jonesing and ruthless people wandering the highways and byways of our communities. It's as predictable as....wait for it....Global Warming!

Be sure to check on Craigs List. Recently, a San Luis Obispo-area person was able to get back his customized bike by finding it listed on CL. His initial contact to the "seller" was turned down (because the seller got nervous about the location of the inquiry), but the owner then got the police involved and they arranged a sting that got his bike back.
Good luck!
