https://www.waccobb.net/forums/waccobb/ImagesforMembers/ShrubThief.movPrior to my interview with Sebastopol Police Chief Weaver (https://www.waccobb.net/forums/general-community/63648-slow-down-sebastopol-campaign-interview-chief-weaver.html#post107148) this morning, he mentioned that on his way to work today, he came a across a man with a head wound. The man said he noticed someone hack off parts of a shrub from his garden. He tried to stop him and was attacked by the would-be thief, and that the thief had gotten away. You can hear Chief Weaver describe the incident on the included audio snippet.
After we spoke, Chief Weaver informed me:
We caught him this afternoon after a vehicle pursuit and a foot pursuit into the Laguna de Santa Rosa.
We’re interviewing him now and will be booking him into the Sonoma County Jail for attempted murder later this afternoon. Thanks Chief Weaver and the rest of the Sebastopol PD for keeping us and our gardens safe!

Sebastopol Police Thursday afternoon were in hot pursuit of a man wanted for attempted murder, after he allegedly attacked another man in his own backyard with a pair of pruning sheers, earlier that morning.
Sirens sounded at around noon as police chased the suspect through the downtown Sebastopol area – and into residential and business districts – at speeds of 30 to 45 mph.
By 1 p.m., a Sonoma County Sheriff’s helicopter began an air search, while police continued their hunt for the suspect – now on foot near the Joe Rodota bike trail – after he exited his car at Bradley Video and fled on foot.
“Early this morning the suspect attempted to kill someone, by stabbing them,” Sebastopol Police officer, Dennis Colthurst said, standing at the head of the bike trail.
Following the morning incident, the suspect abandoned his car by McDonalds and took off on foot. Police observed the vehicle throughout the morning until around noon when the suspect returned to his car, according to Colthurst. Soon after, police initiated a felony traffic stop at Palm Drive Hospital and the suspect failed to yield, resulting in a pursuit.
As of 1:45 p.m. the suspect was still at large. A K-9 dog was called to the scene to help officers track down their suspect.
Police are looking for a white male adult, 45-50 years of age, weighing about 240 pounds. He is balding, but has long grayish hair. He was last seen wearing a green corduroy jacket and black work pants.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Sebastopol Police Department at 829-4400.
