https://www.waccobb.net/forums/waccobb/ImagesforMembers/iPad.jpgI followed the iPad announcement via a live blog on the New York Times and the tweet feed from Time Inc.'s Techland.

At first I was disappointment. It's just a giant iPod touch without a camera. However, that's just the hardware. It seems like it works well, with Apple's typical extreme attention to the user experience, and nicely enough it's fast, thanks to its custom chip.

But the action is all in the software. They seemed like the did a good job upsizing their Apple apps. The key will be the third party apps, of course. Seems like games will really take off too (but I can't remember the last time I played a computer game).

I'll wait for the first hardware update (I waited for the 3Gs before taking the iPhone plunge), but I have no doubt that one (or more) will be in my life some time soonish! And I will love it, like its older/smaller kid brother.

What do you guys think?

OK...what's the point of an Ipad -iPad...whatever? Portability, and no "old-fashioned" keyboard, PLUS, the added Apple bonus of only being able to use APPLE APPROVED (tm) software. Gimme a keyboard anytime. Give me my own free choice of apps. Give me a portable computer that doesn't require me to keep it in a case when I shove it in my daypack.

I can buy a nice mini-laptop that offers portability and unlimited software, folds into its own protective case, (and includes a keyboard!) for $300. Again, Apple offers the gimmicks, but not much else.

I never thought that I'd ever agree with anything Hitler said.

SWMBO tells me that this is proof there were NO women in the making or marketing of that machine; obviously right
