View Full Version : Sinewave Water Softening?

I am investigating using a gizmo that wraps around my water pipe at the pump and that softens the water by bending the sinewave (or something like that), thus freeing up the calcium from solution. Ads on line claim that within months, all calcification, limescale buildup is flushed out of the pipes and water heater. Some of the companies give warranties to that effect.
Do any of you know anything about this technology? I am trying to avoid softening my water with reverse osmosis or salt water softeners.
Thanks!

I put these words into Google: sine wave water softening - and came up with at least one article: Magnetic water treatment pseudoscience (https://www.chem1.com/CQ/magscams.html) and several ads for salt-free water softeners. A "sine wave" is simply the electrical waveform (voltage vs time) of common household electricity. I would be very skeptical about such a device having a significant effect on water hardness or scale buildup. The article seems to support that skepticism (it says such devices have been around since the '30s).

We have a similar problem here, and I contacted a couple of local water treatment companies. One recommended an iron filter (we have high iron content and probably iron bacteria), and my sense was that he knew what he was talking about. His company is Servisoft of Sonoma - based in Santa Rosa. He did some quick tests to determine what the major problems are.

Good luck!
