Why is it when it is any other national holiday, the Boy Scouts line the whole of main street with flags. The last two years, MKL Jr. day gets a token 20 flags...
That just isn't right.....:hmmm:

Parhaps flying the imperialist flag is not the most appropriate way to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. Studying his work and applying his principles might be a better way.

Actually MLK Day provides the perfect opportunity to line Sebastopol Ave and Main Street with unflags. These unflags would be hand-crafted art objects that could display the images and messages of maybe three dozen different heroes and heras of various and sundry liberation movements. And still yet another possibility would be to drape unflags from the bandstand area of the downtown plaza: something like this could be esthetically marvelous on one hand and extremely educative. It would remind us of how we have lived at our human best and function as an occasion where we drape our own imagination in the dreams that inspire the Dr Kings.

I like the "un"flags idea. It's a very democratic way to celebrate a creative life, well lived.
