:toast: Happy St Patty's Day everybody! :toast:

Don't worry, the website and the digest are returning to their un-green format. Just a little fun...

(And, if you are interested in helping out with graphics of this site, let's talk!)

Whoa, that was one VIVID GREEN! Now everything I look at has a pink tinge to it! Thanx Barry!

Hey Barry and other fellow Waccoites,

On Thursday at The Sweet Spot in Santa Rosa I participated in a conversation with some Irishmen about St. Patrick's Day / St. Paddy's Day. One of their peeves, aside from Green Beer, was the spelling of St. Paddy's Day with "t's". It was an abomination to them.

The reasons being that Paddy is slang for an Irishperson and Patty is a girl's name. They even excoriated Guinness Corp. for it's violation of the spelling in its ads. I understand the grammatic logic, if Patty is short for Patrick the "t's" make sense. But who says things cultural have to be logical?

Just thought I'd pass the message along.

For a look at the history of St. Patrick's Day and the corporate commercialization of the Irish Pub, check out Slate.com from day before yesterday. The one about the pubs is a very interesting piece. It is titled "Ireland's "Crack" Habit" and can be found at:

:D :drink4:

(Yeah, yeah, I know associating drinking with the Irish is a racist stereotype, but you can't be paying attention and not know that St. Patrick's Day might as well also be a landmark on the alcohol drinkers annual calendar of worship days!)
