I am looking for someone who will, as a public spirited citizen of Sebastopol, scan on to a CD or to a hard drive from which a CD can be burned, Sebastopol's General Plan. It consists of about 250 pages (a bit more than 100 2-sided pages.) The General Plan is not on the website. The City's scanner won't do it, I'm told. I think it should be on the website, and apparently it's going to take some creativity to accomplish it.

It is a very important document, and should be available to interested parties on the city's official website.

Can you help?

Please contact me by phone or email. Helen Shane 707 823-3744

The document was no doubt created on a computer. That means it exists somewhere in electronic form and can be converted to a PDF and uploaded to the website. No scanner should be needed for this.

I'm told it no longer exists in electronic form. It was last amended in 1998. Fantastic, but apparently true. thanks. hs :dunno:

A good way to solve your problem is to use a scanner that has OCR (Optical character reader) capabilities. Good one's can seperate text from images and leave the text editable, usually as a Microsoft word document. This can than be converted to a PDF file. Scanning documents such as you describe simply as a "picture" has a number of limitations such as legibility and scale-ability.

The third floor computer lab in Maginni Hall at Sata Rosa Junior College has a high end Epson scanner that would be capable of the job. Any registered student can use the lab, it's open from 9am until 10 pm M-Thur. You can post a note with your request for help on the bulliten board in the lab.
good luck,

Thanks, Ron. I will try that avenue if I am not successful in my ongoing search for the disc on which the GP may stil be found. Helen Shane
