I have heard that the Animal Care & Control Shelter is in dire need of clean bedding for dogs. They are also accepting new toys and treats.
Clean towels, blankets, dog beds etc would work. They are laying on cold, bare cement!
Call ahead 565-7100 to confirm a good time to deliver.
Organize a few neighbors or a wacco drop off site for collection and then one person can do the drop off.
Thanks for thinking of the animals.

I will call local hotels and such for old towels, blankets they might have. Anyone have any other ideas?
Contact me privately if you or if you have some to give.

When was the last time that you went to the Shelter? While it is true that all animal welfare organizations(and all non-profits in the County btw...) need our support, it is patently untrue that our animal friends at the Shelter are sleeping on cold hard concrete...
This speaks ill of all of the effort that has gone into making the Shelter a better place this year! We have a new, dynamic Director and an able staff. As someone who has adopted from the Shelter recently and visited often, I can say that while the demand is great during these hard times (all those BH Chihuahuas), the staff is meeting the need and reaching out to the community for much needed assistance-which does not imply that the pets are not properly cared for!
Donate, do not depricate! And don't spread unsubstantiated rumors based on hearsay...:2cents:

Oh great! I sure don't want to get into an argument over this.
I'm glad to hear the need at the shelter (animal) is not as dire as the original post indicated. I should have called the shelter before volunteering my help.
Dian, how do you know if I do or do not contribute to unsheltered people's well being? It is so far less than helpful to be a judge of the worth of someone else's volunteer effort.

Lovely. And might you, while you're calling and talking to folks, let them know that the unsheltered people are also in need of warm clothing - just heard it from a friend who is the night manager at the family shelter at old Memorial Hospital.

Huh??? How did you read that Dian was judging the worth of someone's effort? This is a weird response.

I don't have a vehicle or any extra stuff, but suggest calling Salvation Army, Goodwill, St. Vincent de Paul, as sometimes people donate stuff that is just too old to use or sell for humans. But the dogs won't mind! If anyone wants to pledge to pick up the stuff I can round up, I would be willing to walk the neighborhood and ask for donations. Let me know how I can help. Thanks.
Many blessings,

I didn't see Dian saying anything that was judgmental. All she said was that there is a need for warm clothes for unsheltered people.
